Volunteer guides

On most treks we have room for the assistance of a small number of rostered volunteer guides. In exchange for up to a days free riding worth $70 our volunteers assist with saddling and unsaddling and looking after customers before, during and after treks. Volunteer guides must be confident riders and enjoy looking after and assisting other people.

We provide training and instruction on what to do, and usually select volunteers from people who have been on treks and expressed an interest. Due to the limited number of places we operate a roster on an invitation basis based on volunteers availability. Volunteer guides will usually ride our newer horses to help train them ready for being customer horses on treks.

Requirements:
Volunteer guides need to be safety conscious, mature, responsible and preferably hold a current First Aid certificate. Guides must be confident riders able to fully control a horse, trot, canter, get off to open and close gates, and be able to lead a customer horse while riding if required. It is important that our guides are friendly, helpful, and interested in making the trek an enjoyable experience for our customers. A level of physical fitness is necessary in order to to saddle up to 10 horses with stock saddles,  help people mount, dismount, adjust stirrups, tighten girths etc.

Horse Tamers

From time to time we break in some new horses and ride them out until they are ready for customers. If you are a superbly confident rider interested in volunteering to ride green horses on treks please make yourself known to us. We will want to assess your ability and it is likely we will need you to also be a volunteer guide. Previous experience training green horses is useful and you will be aware that breaking in horses has inherent dangers.
