Horse ride details
Lead pony
Lead ponies are for YOU to lead your younger children around on. You can have the pony for up to two hours and lead as many children around as you want. The pony will have a lead rope instead of reins so that you can control and lead the horse. Please arrive by 9.30am or 12.30pm so that a guide can set you up and give you instructions on leading before the main trek leaves.
1 hour ride
Great for getting your first taste! You leave at the same time as the 2 hour trek but return to base early with a guide. If you book for one hour then decide you want to keep going for two hours that’s fine by us. Just make sure you can pay the extra in cash at the end.
2 hour ride
This is our most popular ride. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or more experienced. Two hours lets us venture further from base and see more of the countryside. If you book for two hours but decide to return with the one hour group we are happy to refund the difference.
4 hour ride
Book into both morning and afternoon treks and ride from 10.00am to 3.00pm with a one hour lunch break back at the car park.
Nighttime glow-worm ride
We leave about half an hour before sunset and ride the second hour in complete darkness. We finish by going through a valley to see the glow-worms. You will get to see the lights over Hamilton as you ride back to base.
Ideal for intermediate and experienced riders who can control their own horse, are comfortable on steep hills and want to experience riding in the dark. NOT suitable for first time riders, young children, people who may need assistance or people who are nervous about riding a horse in complete darkness.
Bring your own horse
You can bring your own horse, and follow along behind the trek, or make your own ride by following the tracks once you know your way around. People following the trek are asked not to overtake our customers or ride in a manner that may disturb customers or their horses.
Private treks
We do private horse rides outside of our normal trekking days with at least 24 hours notice and prepayment by internet banking. A minimum charge applies. Cancellations and refunds You can postpone or cancel up to 12 hours before and a full refund will be provided. If we cancel due to the weather you can rebook or get a complete refund. There is no refund if you don’t turn up, or call us after the guide has left to bring the horses in for your trek.
School classes, team building, private groups – see the ‘groups’ page for more details.
